Grid scale storage

This guy had a somewhat interesting video about grid storage.

What interested me is the micro-transaction idea where people could buy and sell energy on a real-time basis.  I don't know if that will ever happen here, but it would be fun to have some batteries and trade power to and from them.

I would wonder how they would do that peer to peer, put a smart meter on your house? Sounds like a privacy issue.
