Cam Design
« on: March 27, 2020, 06:39:13 pm »
This is what I've been up to lately.  It is probably pretty boring stuff.  But if you do watch any of the videos, I could use some feedback on how to make them better. The videos are all "unlisted" so I'm including the links.

Haven't finished #1 yet but I just had to get this off my chest.
When I went to Lawrence Tech a million years ago I used to hate it when the instructor erased the board immediately after drawing it. I was still copying the dang thing and trying to understand it, then woosh it was gone.

Good point.  A larger whiteboard would be nice.  At least they can pause a video. :-)

Yes the video helps .
On the circular type "form closure" where the follower has to reverse direction because of outside forces , it could be made less violent if there were two rollers on the follower so that one rides the inside cam surface and the other rides the outside surface

So far not boring, my kind of stuff, it's the math that gets me sometimes.
#1 in the bag

So is there a way the student can interact with the instructor? Ask questions? I guess not if it's a video and not a live stream, right?
If it was a live stream then it would almost be like being IN CLASS.

We are meeting with the students using MS Teams.  So there is some interaction.  What other people are doing is videotaping (an old fashioned term :-) ) their lectures and then working examples and answering questions on line.  MS Teams allows you to record the session, so if someone can't make it, they can watch a rerun.  I post a copy of my notes where students can see them too.  The difficult part now is how to handle tests and homework.

Good idea with the two rollers!

We are too.  There have been a number of cases near us, so now we are extra careful.

I'm using MSTeams for the lectures and posting the videos in Moodle (the software we use for general course information and recording grades etc.)
It's going okay, but I sure miss the classroom.  I talk and work on a small whiteboard, but there is so little feedback from the students.  Sometimes I wonder if anyone is there.  :-)
