Thermal might help with storage.  Most of our energy is spent on heat.

Did you ever realize that here in Michigan we have half of the system already built in to our homes?
It's called a basement. Imagine how much heat energy you could store in August, and then use it in February? I "guess" I have 50,000 gallons of storage space in my basement. Just need expanding foam insulation.

There was a home near us that used rocks for solar thermal storage.  The house was sold to our pastor's son, and they did not know why anyone would put so many rocks in their basement.  I told them it was for thermal storage, but they didn't want that.  It took a lot of effort to get rid of those rocks.
