The LEDs did not look very bright, so I think you are correct about the low current.  I wonder how vigorously you have to shake the tube.

It might be like part of a Lord Kelvin's Thunderstorm.  It might be necessary for the drops going over the electrodes to be individual drops instead of a stream.

Except the TNT channel version, uses just rain without electrodes.

I wonder if he is forming a simple battery by having dissimilar materials for the electrodes.  It produces a voltage, but what kind of current can it produce?

It's in the microamps, maybe less.

It could be an acid battery (ACID RAIN )
